Human Resources

The City of Covington Human Resources Department is responsible for the administration of all Personnel and Purchasing activities for the city. The Human Resource Department is located on the ground floor of Covington City Hall. They can be reached by phone (901) 476-9613.

We are committed to attracting, retaining, and developing a diverse and competent workforce that enables the City to operate efficiently.

There are thirteen departments/divisions in the city with various levels of employment. The Human Resources Department works collaboratively with each department in the administration of human resource policies and procedures.

The City of Covington currently has 137 full-time employees and also hires numerous part-time/seasonal workers.

The areas of responsibility of the Human Resource Department include:

  • Recruitment, training, application process, selection, orientation of new employees
  • Personnel Administration
  • Payroll Processing
  • Classification and compensation administration
  • Administration of all employee benefits
  • Workers Compensation
  • Organizing and Planning special events for employees

Application Process

  • Applications are accepted ONLY during the time of a posted vacancy.
  • Applications can be obtained at the Personnel Department or online, with the exception of Police Department postings which are done through that department.
  • Job postings can be found on this site as well as on the main bulletin board located outside the Personnel office. Additionally, vacancies requiring special skills are advertised in the local paper.
  • You can complete applications and email it to our department through the Contact Us button above, by emailing it to hr@covingtontn.com, or bringing it by our office Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.
