What is a Cross-Connection? A Cross-Connection is a direct
arrangement of a piping that allows the potable
water supply to be connected to a something that contains
a contaminant. Each instance where water is used
improperly may create the possibility of a backflow
situation that threatens not only your health and
safety, but that of many other customers and the
integrity of our drinking water.
You should be aware that swimming pools, lawn sprinklers and
improper use of garden hoses, just to name a few,
are potential hazards that may easily result in
water contamination. Covington
Ordinance #1098 requires an approved backflow
prevention device be properly installed in all
residential, commercial and industrial sites
considered to be a potential hazard to the integrity
of the water supply.
The City of Covington
will test your device free of charge annually.
Following the inspection you will be notified if
maintenance to your device is required. Repair
costs are the responsibility of the owner.
If you have any questions about cross-connections, please
call the City of Covington Water Quality Division at
475-4965 and we will be happy to assist you.
Clean water is your
business too.
