Planning & Building

The Planning and Building Division has responsibility for enforcement of all construction codes and zoning regulations adopted by the City. We review all construction and development plans and issue all construction related permits. The Planning and Building Division serves as staff for the Covington & Municipal-Regional Planning Commission, Historic Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. We function as the City engineering department, assisting other City departments with engineering requests, either by providing the service requested or retaining an outside firm for the work.

Building & Related Codes

NOTICE

Effective August 11, 2009, Ordinance # 1596 (2006 ICC Building and Related Codes) was adopted by the City of Covington. Plans will be accepted for review that were designed to be compliant with the 1999 SBCCI Building Codes or 2006 ICC Building & Related Codes until March 1, 2010.

After March 1, 2010, all plans submitted for review will need to be in compliance with the 2006 ICC Building & Related Codes.
